March 2, 2007

On 2-27-07 there was a massive sell off in the markets. The volatility that resulted can be seen on these charts, and the charts for the next week. This extreme volatility started at around 1430 hours on 2-27-07. Even though the market was down over 2% at 1430 hours, the trading was not unusual, other than the number of trades. After 1500 hours, and the computer problems at Dow were discovered, the number of contracts contracts increased significantly and price fluctuated wildly and violently. This volatility resulted in an abnormal amount of trades, favorable excursions, and adverse excursions on 2-27-07 and for the following week.
